Davroche
Andrew Davis was a husband, a father of two, a managing director and a local politician. He truly wanted to make the world a better place, a trait claimed by many. Where he differed from most, however, was the drive he possessed to actually make meaningful impacts on the world around him. His company won awards in its industry for the ethical approach it took with customers and the environment. He also improved conditions for locals in his area during his time on the local council.
In late 2019, Andrew was diagnosed with lung cancer. His fight with cancer, as is common, was very hard. Despite this and other complications due to the pandemic, he continued his duties to the best of his ability. Sadly, despite the best efforts of his family and the National Health Service, Andrew passed away in early 2021 at the age of 64. His absence was greatly felt throughout the local community and especially those closest to him.
In his memory, a solar-powered server has been set up that helps scientists around the world research treatments for diseases like cancer through the Folding@Home initiative. You can see the total contributions the server has made to science here.
Davroche was a name that meant a lot to Andrew, which is why it became the name of this project. The Davroche project aims to continue his legacy of protecting the environment, the advancement of science and increasing access to education in poorer parts of the world (especially for women and girls).
The page serves as a memorial and a promise that his influence will continue to support the causes that mattered most to him – even in death.
May he be remembered.
